چکیده

The successful use of dextran of low molecular weight (Rheomacrodex) in the treatment of peripheral ischaemia is now well reported in the literature (Bergentz et al., 196 la, 1961b; Gelin, 1961; Gelin and Ingelman, 1961 ; Long et al., 1961 ; Ratliff, 1963; Powley, 1963 ; Leak and Kemball Price, 1964; Bienenstock and Harding, 1964). By increasing the blood supply to the affected part function can be restored or gangrene prevented. The object of this study was to see if, by improving the blood supply to the placental site, foetal distress could be alleviated, at least for sufficient time to allow vaginal delivery.

The Early Diagnosis of Foetal Distress.

THE problem of reducing perinatal mortality is closely related to the early and accurate recognition of foetal distress. Although the estimation of urinary oestrogen and/or pregnanediol before labour, and the continuous recording of the foetal heart rate during labour are of some value, the problem is far from solved. In this paper we present the results obtained with two less-known methods for...

Haemangiomata of the placenta.

A series of six placental haemangiomata is described. Of these one was large and was associated clinically with hydramnios and premature labour. The remaining five were discovered in the course of a systemic examination of 500 unselected placentae. The literature on this tumour is reviewed and it is concluded that this is a very common lesion occurring in about 1% of all placentae. The tumour i...

Foetal heart rate monitoring--present lessons and future developments.

JUST as the first detailed description of the foetal heart sounds (Le Jumeau de Kergaradec, 1822) eventually led to the view that foetal bradycardia might indicate danger to the foetus (Von Winckel, 1903) and to the present routine practice of periodic auscultation during labour, so the first reported foetal electrocardiogram (Cremer, 1906) has been followed by efforts to develop automatic meth...

Labour analgesia effects on foetal heart rate. A mini-review

Foetal well-being during labour is of utmost importance. One of the ways to attempt to assess foetal wellbeing is by recording foetal heart rate (FHR). Loss of variability and deceleration patterns are known to be associated with foetal distress. Decelerations and foetal bradycardia have been described after any type of effective labour analgesia. This review addresses the questions if certain ...
